Exploring the nature reserves takes you on a journey along a network of paths through a mosaic of wetland habitats.
Two discrete areas can be accessed. To the Southern end of the estuary, Seaton Marshes Local Nature Reserve lies a short walk along the cycle path which runs from the Underfleet car park.
The wooden walkway on the Borrow Pit pond is a perfect place for watching little grebe feed their chicks in the summer months, while the bird hide overlooks one of the busiest creeks on the estuary for wading birds.
Black Hole Marsh is the most recently opened area of wetland, and a newly created bird hide stands proudly on an island in the middle of this artificially created tidal lagoon. From here you can carry on to see dragonflies in Stafford marsh and on to access the saltmarsh of Colyford Common beyond.
Dogs are not allowed on any of these sites due to the presence of breeding or over-wintering birds.
